The Irish National did not work out well for us! Just the one placed horse, so if we had bet a half a unit each way on the 5 (therefore 5 units), we would have lost 3.5 units. My units were very small and I hope yours were too! The ground was very heavy for the race and they went a decent gallop, so perhaps that did for our horses, but no excuses!
I am working on a few things at the moment and will be trialling some selections on here, some will be systems that I have written since the last Turf season, in readiness for this year and some will be using a new Going Adjustment parameter that is now available in Proform.
I was looking at Catterick for today and the first thing I checked was the Rain Chart for that area. A fairly grim day is in store it seems. That means the ground will be beyond Heavy, so I want to see evidence of horses running on very bad ground. It seems though that we have had no horses that have run on bottomless ground in recent times (last 2 years).
However, these have run on Very Soft to Very Heavy ground and achieved an above par speed rating when doing so and are well rated by my Race Specific Rating:
And these have above par speed figures on similar ground to the above (i.e. Very Soft to Very Heavy) but do not take into account any other race ratings:
But non of the above have form on Bottomless Ground! There may be other horses who have not run on very bad ground who may come to the fore today. We shall see.
For me, it is a watching brief as I try to see what rules I can add into any futures systems. I will be interested to see how each of the above performs though.
Good luck.
